In what many considered to be the 7A game of the week, it was the Bentonville Tigers who pulled away in the second half to defeat the Wampus Cats of Conway by a score of 47-21.
In an exciting first half that swung back and forth, Bentonville drove the length of the field on its first possession. Quarterback Andrew Edwards directed a series of option plays in which he kept the ball down to the Conway 43. Edwards then hit wide receiver Cooper Smith on three short passes down to the 30. On a big 3rd and 10 play, Edwards hit Sean Anderson on a screen pass, setting up first down on the 15. After two runs by Anderson, the Tigers had a first and goal from the 1-yard line. Conway’s defense stood strong, but couldn’t keep Edwards out of the endzone on a 3rd down QB sneak, giving the Tigers an early 7-0 lead.
